What happens during the Laser Eye Surgery?

Prior to your treatment you will receive drops in the operative eye(s) to prevent discomfort.
You will not experience pain during the treatment.

The fellow eye will be taped closed to allow you to better focus on a red fixation light.

It will take a few minutes to position you properly under the microscope. You will be lying on a movable bed.  Additional anesthetic drops will be placed in your eye and your surgeon will then insert an eyelid speculum to prevent you from blinking.

You will be asked to stare at a red light throughout the procedure.Your surgeon will monitor the eye through a microscope at all times.

The laser will make a “clicking” sound as it alters the curvature of your eye.  A distinct smell will also become evident. This smell occurs as the beam of light meets the air.

The actual laser application takes 15-60 seconds.  Most patients require 2-4 steps to complete the procedure.

Immediately after the laser procedure, a soft bandage contact lens will be placed over the cornea and anti-inflammatory drops are instilled in the eye.  Occasionally, an eye patch will be used.

It is recommended that you proceed directly home after your procedure.  You will feel best once you rest for a few hours.
